Shaheed Morteza Ataei is one of the great but lesser-known martyrs who defended the holy shrines. Driven by a fervent desire to join the ranks of shrine defenders, he did everything in his power to finally gain permission to stand alongside the valiant warriors of the prestigious Fatemiyoun Brigade. Morteza Ataei was a close companion of Shaheed Mostafa Sadrzadeh, a friendship so deep that he was like a brother to him. Eventually, a short time after Sadrzadeh’s martyrdom, Ataei joined his martyred brother in the afterlife. “Where is Abu Ali?” recounts the memories of Shaheed Morteza Ataei during his days on the front lines fighting against the Takfiri enemy. These memories, narrated by Ataei himself, were initially intended to be used for a book about Shaheed Sadrzadeh but ultimately became a book of his own memoirs due to Ataei’s martyrdom. Known on the battlefield as “Abu Ali,” Ataei exemplifies the true spirit of a devoted Basiji. The combination of Abu Ali and Shaheed Sadrzadeh on the battlefield formed one of the most significant command teams in the fight against ISIS. Abu Ali’s passion for the Basij and military activities, along with his deep focus on self-purification and his profound friendship with Mostafa Sadrzadeh, turned a construction worker into someone who, like mystics, fell deeply in love with the vision of the Divine.
